Acer Predator Triton 700 LaptopThe new Acer Triton 500 SE has a subtle look, and you might not know it can serve as a gaming laptop from afar. It comes with better features, sharper corners and gives a more distinguished look.

Here is our impressions for the Acer Triton 500 SE.

Design

What Makes it Work

The Acer Triton is a gaming laptop with a restructured chassis that gives it a refined look. Seeing the computer at first glance, you would never know it is a Predator laptop or a gaming laptop. Regarding design, the 500 SE does not have the sleekness of the MacBook pro. However, for a gaming laptop, its aluminum body gives it a refined feel and look.

This new 500 SE has a Triton logo on the right corner top, unlike its predecessor with its logo along the bottom of the laptop screen.

Opening the screen is a firm experience; it does not wobble and can open with one finger. The 500 SE is a 5.3 lbs. lightweight laptop with excellent port options.  On the left side of the computer you get:

  • an exclusive plug.

On the right side you have

  • two USB-A ports,
  • two Thunderbolt 4 ports,
  • an SSD card slot,
  • HDMI 2.1,
  • a headphone jack,
  • an Ethernet jack,
  • and a Wi-Fi 6.

All these ports help you get seamless connectivity.

Overall: A SLEEPING HEAVYWEIGHT

Display

What Makes it Work

The display of the Triton 500 SE is the greatest improvement to the new model: starting with an aspect ratio of 16:10. And unlike most gaming laptops, it comes with a 16-inch screen, but you can hardly tell because of its slim design. While it does not have the horizontal screen of most gaming laptops, the 500 SE can double as a productivity machine.

The display of the 500 SE comes with NVIDIA’s G-Sync technology, letting you have the smoothest gaming experience.

One of the unique things on this laptop is the mini-LED that comes with it. Many current gaming laptops have regular LEDs giving better image quality. Yet, the mini-LED has a refresh rate of 165Hz, up to 1,250 nit, and covers 100 percent of the sRGB color area.

What It’s Missing

The downside to the G-Sync technology is that it takes a toll on your battery life.

Overall: STUNNING LOOKS

Keyboard and Touchpad

What Makes it Work

This laptop has nearly the same keyboard of its predecessor. Although, instead of a silver keyboard, the 500 SE has silver keycaps color. The keyboard has a tighter feel and great bounce- making inputs faster.

It comes with a smooth surface touchpad, giving a quiet click and accurate tracking.  It works excellent to access Windows since the 500 SE did not come with a facial recognition IP camera.

What It’s Missing

The 500 SE would have benefited from having a keyboard with a more extensive space bar. A roomier layout would give way to having bigger function keys. Another downside to this laptop is that it could have come with a per-key backlit option instead of its three-zone RGB backlighting.

It has a fingerprint reader on the left side of the touchpad, making it harder to use the touchpad. And like most expansive Windows touchpads, there was a minor palm rejection issue.

Overall: Somewhere in the middle

Performance

What Makes it Work

The Acer 500 SE handles gaming quite well. It has a Core i9, which comes with eight cores and sixteen threads. So not only does it work for gaming, it can be an excellent option for content creators. It features an exceptional 45-watt 11th-gen processor from Intel. It offers NVIDIA’s RTX 3080, 3060, or 3070- but it does not have an AMD like most premium gaming laptops. You might have to make do with the pairing of NVIDIA/ Intel.

It’s PredatorSense software controls the three fans and five pipes that cool the CPU and GPU- an unconventional cooling systems.  This model comes with upgradeable RAM and a dual-channel memory of 32GB.

Overall: BUILT FOR ANY TASK

Battery

What Makes it Work

The battery life of this laptop is a great feature. When switched with NVIDIA Advanced Optimus GPU, the 500 SE lasts for 12 hours of battery use. However, with G-Sync discrete GPU, the battery life might cut down to like 8 hours

Overall: MADE TO LAST

Final Verdict

This laptop can pass for an everyday-use notebook, but it has many features for the average gamer. And while you can use it for your mid-range gaming, you can also run productive tasks such as multimedia editing and content creation without hassle.
